8th Ward Commissioner - Gerry Hart

Commissioners Gerry Hart

Eighth Ward Commissioner Gerard Hart has served on the Board since his election in 2017. He is
originally from the Bronx, NY, but grew up in Middletown, NJ. He is a graduate of Boston College (BA
English 1975) and later Rutgers Medical School (MD 1983). He subsequently completed a residency
program in Family Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Gerry and his wife, Anne, moved to Havertown in 1990 from Watkinsville, Georgia after he completed
his National Health Service Corps obligation and Anne completed her post-doctoral studies at the
University of Georgia. They moved to Havertown with their two young children, Emily and Michael. Over
the years the family has grown to 6 children including sons Jesse and Isaiah as well daughters India and
Imani. India is currently in the 11th grade at Haverford High and Imani is a 7th grade student at Sacred
Heart Academy. Dr.Hart, who is board certified in both Family Medicine and Geriatrics, practiced in
mostly underserved areas in the Philadelphia region during the past 25 years. He left full-time practice in
2016, but continues to practice on a part-time basis.

Gerry currently serves as the chair of the Environmental Advisory and Senior Citizen’s Advisory Boards.
He is also an active member of the Library, Recreation, Fire, Police, Health, Ice Rink, and Economic
Development Boards as well as serving as a member of the commission which is updating the township’s
Municipal Plan. Gerry is committed to maintaining our open space, improving our biking and walking
trails, and ensuring the continued strength of our recreation department. He also believes it is important
for Haverford Township to continue to see growth in its business community in part to ensure that we
broaden our tax base to lessen the burden on homeowners. He presented the resolution to the Board of
Commissioners in 2018 that passed unanimously committing the township to the use of 100%
renewable electricity by 2035 and 100% renewable heat and transportation by 2050. Gerry will work to
ensure that in 2019 our Board either commits the funds for a renovation of our township library at its
current site or makes firm plans to move to a new location.
